Buying Lingerie as a Gift?…We’re Here To Help With Some Good Advice!

Size

In Lingerie Size is very Important; You have to find out the size before you consider choosing lingerie. Find the size of both the persons bra and knickers by discreetly taking a peek in the underwear drawer and checking the labels of sets you know is worn. A lot of people remove the labels off pants ( because they can stick out over the waistband of their trouser or skirt) so you could have your work cut out for you. Maybe some time you’re talking casually you could ask the sizes of lingerie they wear and jot them down for future reference. If you buy a size that is too large or too small it is unlikely it will be worn.

Bust Size

For the top you could look at a t-shirt label which would give an idea, eg. small, med. etc. If you wanted to purchase a baby doll lingerie or chemise, then you’d need a bra size and hip size. Boobs & hips have a unique size for every woman. Most lingerie that is babydolls chemises etc. have good stretch and are available in sizes from small to 7xl.  Then look at the size chart to see what size is the equivalent to it. Examples are given to guide you.

This is an example of a bra label this is clearly a 36C size bra.

Below is an example of a lot of sizing in Lingerie now. Refer to the Size chart below to get an indication of the correct size to choose.

Bottoms or Stocking Sizes

Trousers also are the same size as pants and suspenders, a size 8 to 10 in trousers will be a size 8 to 10 in suspenders and panties. However a lot of stock nowadays is supplied in the S.Med. Large or 1xl. 2x. etc. as in the pic below.

Stocking’s are another area in lingerie where size is very important. We have a size/height chart to guide you also, A ‘size 1 or ‘size 2 stocking is not going to fit a person who is tall. Likewise a size 5 or 6 is going to be far too long for a person who is only 4 ft tall. However weight does come into the equation also as a fuller leg will need a larger size stocking. So please refer to the charts to guide you.

One Size Fits All Lingerie?

One size lingerie does not fit all! If you see that on a label it usually means the lingerie is a size medium, and usually the material is so stretchy it can stretch up 2 or 3 sizes.

Should You Be Adventurous?

Sometimes it’s good to be bold, but only you can decide that! if this is a very personal lingerie gift and it is important for the person to love the gift be sure to base your choice on items or styles you see them wear already. Pay attention to details like is the bust supported. Does the person like their underwear fitted tightly or loose, the backside covered or bare etc. As I said earlier people know what they like to wear, and possibly buy it all the time. Lingerie is no different. Your ideas may not turn the person on the way they do you, (of course you could be lucky) It’s a chance you take however a little homework will help

Which Style Should I Choose

Styles: It’s good to think about the past and what style of lingerie your partner wears, what you think may not be what they want. So what styles do they wear? Soft and flowing lingerie? Fitted? Frilly? Lacey? All over Body Stockings? Well we give you an indepth idea here in this link to help you make a decision: Styles Of Lingerie

Types & Quality Of Materials

What types of material do they like to wear? Satin? Silk? Voile? Lace? See through or not? When a fabric says sheer it usually means it’s see through.

Most lingerie material is soft, but make sure it is soft, unless your partner loves stiff hard fabric? The framework of a corset or basque is stiff and fitted but the material is usually soft, whereas babydolls & chemises are usually soft and flowing. Body stockings are usually sheer but can be net, so consider this before buying. Nowadays it can be difficult to tell the difference in materials as production has advanced so much.

A Little About Colour

Then maybe think about lingerie colours? Everyone has an idea of what colour they like? don’t they? If not here are a few examples;

  • Red for passion,
  • White for purity
  • Black for power
  • Yellow for energy
  • Pink for sweet/ tender
  • Green for ambition, wealth and renewal
  • Blue for confidence/wisdom

These are of course for guidance only, if a colour is attractive to you then go with it.

Buying lingerie as a gift can be difficult. Of course if you said’ it’s a lingerie gift of what you want to see your partner wearing, then you’d be playing safe.

Thongs are on  the way out, so choose wisely here. If the person you are buying lingerie for has a fuller figure then they may not feel comfortable in a thong and/or a cut away waistline. Cover in some parts may be good, probably the waist line and maybe the hips or the bust too, it depends on the person. We are all different and what one likes the other doesn’t. If course watch the length of the item, you’ll get a good idea from the advertising pic. if in doubt send a wee email. Most companies want to help people get exactly what they are looking for.

Reveal All Or Leave A Little To The Imagination?

If you’re buying lingerie for someone who has no problem revealing all then go for it, if the person is more reserved then let your lingerie choice reflect this…. A tip I read somewhere is to add a sheer little robe to make the person feel more comfortable if you are in doubt, I think that is a great tip..that would be my advice!

Timing Is Crucial

Timing is crucial: This is a bit of advice I read online and may be right. Don’t let your excitement get the better of you and insist the person tries on your lingerie gift the moment they open it. Otherwise it will look more like a present for you rather than for them. Wait for the right moment… You’ll know and so will they.
